Past Productions

The Chanticleer Players formed in 2015 and since then we have put on 8 productions.

Keep reading to find out more about what we've been up to!

A Midsummer Soiree!

Saturday 20th June 2015

Our first ever performance took place in the magical garden of one of our members Lin. We hosted a picnic evening of promenade theatre. Despite some fairly heavy rainfall mid way through the show, our cast carried on, displaying their true professionalism, and entertained the audience, with a collection of scenes and songs, from new writing to Shakespeare!

Cinderella - The Sequel

11th - 13th December 2015

Our first endeavour into pantomime was with a reimagined Cinderella! Our resident director and script writer Louisa Moore, wrote Cinderella the Sequel, telling the story of what came after the familiar fairytale ended!!

Our first venture into Pantoland was certainly a success and since Cinderella the Sequel we have put on a pantomime every Christmas - oh yes we have!!

The Flippant Five and the Mystery of the Shot in the Dark

17th - 18th June 2016

The Flippant Five, made up of adventurous Lady Iris Bungle, her brave and jolly cousins Bunty and Bertie Bungle their darling friend Effie Leamington-Spa and dear Dick the Dog,  are a group of 1950's teenagers who gather ever Summer Hols to solve mysteries and have a jolly spiffing time!

The Flippant Five came to be in 2013 on screen. Members of the Chanticleer Players have come together each summer since 2013 to make a film set in 1950's in the sleepy, little, village of Upper Buttwallop! In 2016 we decided to take The Flippant Five and put them on stage.

Bringing the world of Upper Buttwallop on stage, as opposed to on screen, was certainly a challenge for The Chanticleer Players, but we think it turned our rather spiffing!

Aladdin - The Prequel!

9th - 10th December 2016

For our second pantomime we went less traditional...again our wonderful director and playwright Louisa wrote a fantastic script, telling the story of what happened before Aladdin and how the Genie came to be stuck in that pesky lamp!

Set in the wild, wild West, there were showdowns galore and audiences where able to get a drink at Widow Twankey's Big Bap Saloon!!

A Spellbinding Summer Soiree

27th May 2017

In the early summer of 2017 we decided to put on a show that was reminiscent of our first ever performance.

We put together a programme filled with mystical and magical English classics, From Peter Pan to A Midsummers Night Dream! With music and merriment an afternoon, and evening, of magic and wonder was had by all!

Sleeping Beauty - A Pantomime for all ages!

8th - 9th December 2017

In 2017 we put together our first fully traditional pantomime - Sleeping Beauty! This production also marked our first show in The Marindin Hall, Frensham. The Marindin Hall is a beautiful hall that we use each Friday to gather in rehearse in and where all our shows since Sleeping Beauty have taken place!!

The Mystery of The Winkle at Cockletit Bay

7th - 8th July 2018

In the summer hols young Lady Iris Bungle is accompanied her spiffing housekeeper Mrs Squidgyfeet for two super weeks assisting with the grand opening of the newly rebuilt Winkle Theatre at the end of Cockletit Bay Pier. Our marvellous duo set out to help solve the Mystery of the Winkle at Cockletit Bay! Aided bravely by refreshments served from the Three Shells Kiosk!

Jack and the Beanstalk

30th November - 2nd December 2018

Back to the Land of Pantomime we went, this time with Jack and the Beanstalk. This production we decided to go big or go home with 5 performances, more than we had attempted to do before!

This show certainly taught us a lot, but with a sold out audience for multiple shows we like to think it was a hit!

Our beloved company member Daisy DuMaurier, our pantomime cow, even made her stage debut in this production!

Rapunzel; a Summertime Pantomime of hope and hair... because you're worth it!

16th - 18th July 2021

After what felt like forever, locked in our homes, separated in to tiers, The Chanticleer Players were finally able to come together again, oh yes we could!

We gathered on Zoom to discuss what show to put on, and nothing felt more apt than the story of Rapunzel, a young woman locked in her tower, with little means of escape!

Our next hurdle was venue! We could not be inside in groups larger than 6, and so an outdoor production it was to be! The Chanticleer Players were extremely lucky to be able to collaborate with the beautiful Space2Grow in Farnham, a magical community garden situated behind St Andrew's Church. For more pictures of this beautiful space please look at our gallery!

After a challenging rehearsal period of testing and never having more than 6 players in a room, we finally made it to the Space, our tower was built and the Players did what they do best, played for the finest audience in Christendom!
